2015 Grant Recipients

B-Roll Media & Arts $500 
This media arts training and education organization will expand their free Intro to Photography workshop for local youth. Grant funds will allow for the purchase additional cameras for students to use during the 10 week workshop.

Calvert Hills Citizens Association | $450 
The Calvert Hills Citizens Association will install a Little Free Library featuring books for children. This new Little Free Library is planned for the corner of Rhode Island Avenue and Drexel Road on the Trolley Trail.

Cesar Chavez Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization | $1,000 
in partnership with the UMD Chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers
This grant will support the formation of a Junior FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Lego Robotics team at César Chávez Elementary School (CCES) for children in Kindergarten through 3rd Grade. In partnership with CCES, the University of Maryland Chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers will provide volunteer coaching and mentoring to CCES students throughout the project.

The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center $1,000 
in partnership with Paint Branch Elementary School and Hollywood Elementary School
CPCF’s grant will support the transportation costs and study guides for approximately 135 students from Paint Branch and Hollywood Elementary Schools to attend a matinee at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center through the Clarice K12 School Partner Program. This program includes opportunities for interaction between the students and performers in addition to study guides provided ahead of time to help teachers and students prepare for the performance.

College Park Arts Exchange $1,000 
in partnership with Explorations on Aging
The College Park Arts Exchange and Explorations on Aging will sponsor a new program: Seniors in the Community Art Show/Exhibit and Reception in April 2016. The show will feature artists over 60 years of age.

College Park Aviation Museum $1,000 
in partnership with the Fields of First Foundation
This grant will support a new museum exhibit that will celebrate the important role of John Greene, an African-American pilot, who managed the first African-American owned and operated airport licensed in Maryland – the Columbia Air Center. The exhibit will open during Black History Month 2016 and be on view through at least December 2016.

College Park Lions Club | $250
in partnership with the College Park Community Library
This grant will support the expansion of the College Park Book Festival which promotes and celebrates the importance of literacy. The Festival will relocate to the College Park Community Center providing a more central location for residents of the city and increased space to allow for more event activities.

University Park Elementary School Parent Teacher Association $500 
University Park Elementary School PTA will use their CPCF grant to expand the school library’s resources. Grant funds will allow for the purchase of numerous children’s magazine subscriptions, magazine covers and racks.

Walking on Water $750 
in partnership with Hollywood Elementary School
Walking on Water will use their CPCF grant to bring the Breadmaking EZ program to 3rd graders at Hollywood Elementary School. This program provides an interactive, interdisciplinary math, science and nutrition experience for all learning levels.
